About Coach
John
Born in Seattle, Washington, John spent his formative years on the Eastside, Federal Way, and Pittsburgh of all places. His introduction to soccer came early through his father, and it quickly became a full-blown passion. He played for Eastside FC, Eastlake High School, Bellevue College, and Concordia University, experiencing soccer at various levels, which shaped his understanding of the game and fostered a deep love for it.
His coaching journey began during his freshman year at Bellevue College when he started coaching at the local high school, Interlake. Throughout his career, he’s been fortunate to learn from and be inspired by great mentors, including Alan Hinton, Jimmy Gabriel, David Hoggan, and Eastside FC's own Chance Fry. He’s also had the privilege of coaching at Juanita High School and Bellevue College. John is currently the head coach of the Bellevue College Men's Soccer program and will continue on in that role.
John holds a Master’s of Education in Intercollegiate Athletic Leadership from the University of Washington, which further fuels his dedication to the game and the development of student-athletes.
John's coaching philosophy centers on simplicity through one- and two-touch football. He believes the beauty of the game lies in its simplicity, and he loves the team dynamics, commitment, accountability, and relationships that coaching fosters. It’s also meaningful for him to coach for an institution where he once played, giving him a unique perspective and passion.
John is a first-generation American of two English parents. He enjoys relaxing quiet moments at home, watching movies and Ipswich Town matches, gaming, and engaging in light-hearted social media banter, especially around geopolitics. While he no longer has a pet after losing his beloved cat last May, he has fond memories of her. Lastly, when it comes to UFOs, he might be a believer—something he can neither deny nor confirm.
