Tacoma Stars Host Eastside FC... AWESOME!

(Jan 9, 2017)  About 200 Eastside FC friends and family members, including about 40 players, ruled '80's Night as the MASL Tacoma Stars ruled the arena in a 6-4 victory over visiting Atletico Baja on Saturday, January 7th, at the ShoWare Center. Our U8 and U9 players took full advantage of the opportunity with a warm-up on the indoor pitch prior to the professional match-up. They also got to escort the players into the arena and play again at halftime. The boys and girls even had the opportunity to get photos with the team and score autographs after the match. The Tacoma Stars were incredible hosts.

"Our boys and families had a great time. It really was a great fan experience," confirmed EFC B08 White Team Manager, and one of our photographers, Brittany Carmichael. The fact that the Stars went up 6-0 before the end of the first half made it even more exciting.

"This is all part of building a real football culture and showing the many other elements in sport outside training and games," said EFC Coach Aaron Byers, who organized the event with the Stars for Eastside FC and Mercer Island FC. 'We've been doing this for many years (in support of our local college and professional teams), and the kids always get inspired and have fun." Judging by player and family responses, we'd have to agree -- mission accomplished!

Thanks to the Tacoma Stars and EFC parent Brittany Carmichael for providing photos.

Arena Soccer, aka indoor soccer, is a slightly different game from our own, originally developed in North America as a way to play during the winter months; it is played on turf with the field delimited by walls instead of lines, and there are no player throw-ins. It is a generally a faster version of the outdoor game. The MASL (Major Arena Soccer League) is currently comprised of seventeen pro teams across four divisions nationwide. As a result of Saturday's game, the Tacoma Stars now sit in a tie for first place in the Pacific Division.
