EFC Players Make the Grade in HS Soccer

(Jan 18, 2017) UPDATE  Congratulations are in order for our High School girls for their impressive showing during the 2016 High School soccer season. Ten Eastside FC players haver been named to the 2016 Wasington State Soccer Coaches' Association (WSCAA) All-State Teams. (See list below.) EFC's Jojo Harber stands out, having been named 3A MVP and Soccer Player of the Year.

(Dec 16, 2016)  As we head into our holiday break, we take time to congratulate our EFC girls on their high school soccer performances before they're too far into their winter league matches.  Eastside FC players enjoyed tremendous success in high school ball this year, many playing deep into the state championships.  Eastside FC players also enjoyed individual awards, including our very own Laura Roberts (Seattle Prep), Olivia VanderJagt (Kentridge), Katie Foster and Jojo Harber (Bellevue), who were all named to the 2016 Star-Times team.  While Seattle Prep and Bellevue ran deep into the WIAA championships and are highlighted below, Vander Jagt's Kentridge High School is not included, but she receives high praise as a leader on her team.

The WIAA State Championships wrapped up November 18-19, 2016.  Of the local teams where our Eastside FC players are rostered and that made it into the state semifinals or beyond, we extend hearty congratulations to: 

Bellevue High School 3A State Champions

Congrats to our own Jojo Harber of Bellevue High School for scoring the game winning goal in the 1-0 semifinal match vs Seattle Prep. She also got the game-winner in Bellevue's win over Southridge in the WIAA 3A State Championship. Harber, along with fifteen of her EFC compatriots, led Bellevue to its first State crown in its 1-0 championship.

Overlake High School 1A State Champions

1A State Champions, the Overlake Owls, defeated La Salle Lightning of Yakima in the final, winning 3-0.  Alex Hobbs, a sophomore forward for Overlake, had 7 shots in the match, and set up the first goal when she took a shot that deflected off the goalkeeper and fell to teammate Jana Basra to put it away. In the 41st minute, Hobbs scored the third goal of the match, finishing with a total of 14 goals for the Owls this season. Anne Parsons Proctor of Eastside FC, a freshman midfielder/forward who played the full 80 of the championship match, added depth to the Overlake squad as it nettied the first-ever 1A soccer title in school history.

Liberty High School 2A 2nd Place

The Liberty High School Patriots made it to the end of regulation, tied 2-2 in the 2A state championship. EFC standouts Makena and Myka Carr had the first goal and assist for Liberty in the 28th minute of the match.The Liberty players proudly left it all on the field in their 2nd place finish to Columbia River as the match was decided in PKs.

Skyline High School 4A 3rd Place

Congrats are in order for Alexa Kirton, Cameron Tingey and the six other EFC players who helped Skyline High School take third place in the WIAA 4A State tournament. Camas defeated Skyline in the semifinals before going on to win the 4A title. In the third-pace match, Kirton scored the game winning goal on an assist by Tingey, and then Tingey provided the insurance goal in the last minute, giving Skyline the 2-0 victory over Hanford.

Seattle Prep 3A 3rd Place

After falling to Bellevue in the semifinals, Seattle Prep moved on to the 3rd-place match in the 3A WIAA state tournament. The Seattle Prep Panthers outshot Bishop Blanchet's Braves with a stunning 25 shots to 3 in the match. Senior and co-captain Laura Roberts, of the Eastside FC G98 Red team, was on the pitch as Seattle Prep claimed third place over their Metro League rivals, 1-0 in overtime.
