(July 26, 2016) As official youth club partner of the Seattle Sounders FC, the Sounders FC Cup takes on special meaning for our Eastside FC teams. Four of our club's Red teams played up a year at the 3-day tournament that wrapped up Sunday, July 24, and came away with championship hardware. More importantly, they were able to demonstrate they've found their cadence as they reach the mid-point in their summer training in preparation for fall season.
Eastside FC B07 Red, coached by Robert Taylor, swept past opponents with an unheard-of 37 goals in their first three matches to finish top in their bracket, then took the BU10 Gold championship title in a tight final against Federal Way FC, 4-3.
Eastside FC B98 Red, coached by Dan Strom, claimed the BU19 Gold title after keeping opponents shut out in the bracket round. The first and only goal against came in the final versus Wenatchee United 99, which had managed a perfect 30 points in the first three rounds, and which the EFC boys dispatched 3-1.
EFC B01 Red, also coached by Dan Strom, won the BU17 Gold championship. The boys were steadfast throughout the tournament, managing a solid 29 points in the first three rounds to emerge on top going into the final against HSC U17, where they earned the "W," 2-1.
Eastside FC also claimed the GU15 Gold Division title. According to Coach Anderson Prestes, whose Eastside FC G03 Red took top honors, "It was a great weekend for the team. We played up a division ( U15 ). The girls played great soccer and were able to perform well during all games of the competition. It was important for us to get quality games preparing the team for the upcoming Surf Cup. We are very happy with our progress." The stalwart G03 Red defense allowed a single goal during the tourney, which came in the opening match. It was not to be repeated, however, as the defenders managed to follow it up with three shutouts, including the final. In total, the girls managed an impressive sixteen goals.
